Meet Julie
I love talking with people, especially in conversations that are genuine and meaningful. When I was in my twenties, I had an ‘aha’ moment in which I realized that I could do this for a living. This realization lead to applications for graduate school and a cross country move to attend Pepperdine University. I received a Masters in Clinical Psychology and proceeded with becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
All along the way, I’ve been interested in helping others and providing education in group settings. I taught ‘Counseling 101’ and ‘The Psychology of Sex and Gender’ at California Lutheran University; at the same time I was working for Kaiser Permanente, as part of a team educating fellow therapists on best practices.
Solidifying my Message
In 2018, I was hired to be the Mental Wellness Specialist in The Center for Health and Wellbeing at The Four Seasons Hotel, Westlake Village. This opportunity has allowed me to frequently present workshops to guests at their monthly Wellness Retreats, as well as to Fortune 500 companies who are staying on property. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the individuals who are behind the companies, being able to hear what is working in their lives and to strategize with them around the areas that need some work. It has been incredibly rewarding to craft and solidify different themed workshops that are tailored to the needs of a group or organization. Being the one to deliver the message and lead in these discussions has truly been the icing on the cake.
I feel grateful to have a career that requires reflection, mindfulness and purposeful dialogue.
I can’t imagine doing anything else for work. I realize what a privilege it is to spend so much time with others, focusing on what matters to them. I feel so humbled to be the one people share their ‘stuff’ with, and after working with thousands of clients over the years, I’ve learned a few things about human beings. It’s incredible how resilient we are. We are stronger and smarter than we give ourselves credit for. We are capable of more wellbeing than is imaginable. My favorite thing, perhaps my purpose in life, is having conversations and sharing with clients what small steps they feel ready for, to move ever closer toward their version of the good life.
My Activism
As a therapist working with teenagers and young adults for over a decade, there's one problem my clients share regardless of what brought them to therapy- they are thoroughly addicted to their phones.
My clients are smart, successful and insightful, they know that their devices hinder meaningful connection and impair their focus. They are aware that their use of social media makes them more anxious, envious and depressed, and yet they, like most of us, struggle to do things differently.
I provide workshops for parents and families to help with implementation of healthier tech habits. Let’s talk about options.
